About the Climate and Sustainability Fund

This fund exists to support local projects that reduce emissions, build resilience, and prepare Wellington for a changing climate. As your Council, we’re committed to investing in climate solutions. From community initiatives to new technologies, the fund is here to help turn bold ideas into practical solutions that support people to connect and care for each other. Supporting climate action at a local level has proven long-term benefits for our city and people, including health, wellbeing, social connection, affordability and general resilience. Since the Climate and Sustainability Fund was launched in 2022, we’ve supported 29 projects with almost $1 million in funding. In overview, this has:

  • engaged over 9,833 people in climate action
  • made it possible to deliver 396 events across the city
  • supported 130 businesses to start reducing emissions
  • enabled hundreds of bikes to be repaired and rehomed
  • delivered five Māori-led initiatives, contributing to our Tūpiki Ora Māori Strategy among others
  • helped schools, churches, and whānau all around the city take practical steps toward sustainability.

When we invest in climate solutions, and change the way we

live, work, move, and play, we all benefit.
