Welcome to the Climate Action Info Hub

Wellingtonians care about a healthy and sustainable future

The Climate Action Info Hub is a one-stop-shop to find your nearest repair cafe, learn about local climate groups and council initiatives, and access funding for your project.

Working together, we can protect the people and the places we love.

Join the movement. It’s happening now.

Use this hub to connect with people and organisations taking action for climate change, and be inspired by real-world, local stories.

Where things stand

In 2025 we surveyed residents and learned 85% of respondents believe we need to act now to start reducing Wellington’s carbon emissions, and 86% believe impacts are already visible.

Everything we do to plan for and prevent climate disruption will benefit us now and in the future.

By recognising climate risks and working together to rise to the challenges, we’ll create a city that is prepared, resilient, and thriving.

Key projects underway

Te Atakura – First to Zero

We want to be a net zero carbon capital by 2050.

Our residents expect us to show proactive leadership that maximises good outcomes, which has led to developing a robust climate response strategy, Te Atakura – First to Zero

This strategy is evidence-based, impactful and cost-effective. It focuses on where we have power to make a difference.

Since developing this strategy, city emissions have reduced by 6% and council emissions have reduced by 44%. Together, we’re making excellent progress, but there’s more to do.
