Kei te hia rongo mātou i a koe | We want to hear from you

We want to make it easier for you to have your say on the Council’s projects and plans for our city.

Everyone should be able to have their say on Council projects and decisions that  impact or interest them. We do this through community engagement.

Community engagement is how the community – you, your whānau, neighbours, and friendsshare your points of view with the Council. These views could include your feedback or ideas about proposed projects (like a change to a street, playground, or the town centre) or when developing plans for the city, like the Long-term Plan.

Tell us about your experiences of giving feedback to the Council. How can we make this easier for you?

E pā ana ki tēnei kaupapa | About this project

Wellington City Council is committed to providing opportunities for everyone to share their points of view.

Whether you’re a young person planning your future, a homeowner, a renter, a parent, or part of a community that’s often underrepresented, Council decisions affect your daily life.

We’re inviting all Wellingtonians to share your ideas on how the Council engages with communities, and what we can do to improve. This will help us to create a new Engagement Approach for the Council, to strengthen how we listen, collaborate, make decisions, and deliver on what matters most to our communities.

E hangaia ana e mātou tāu i kī ai | We’re building on what you’ve told us

We’re not starting from a blank slate. We’re reviewing existing feedback from the community. For example, we know that:

  • You want to hear what happens when you provide feedback and how it is considered during decision-making.
  • You want transparency around how decisions are made.

By hearing from you during this process, we’re checking what we already know and building upon it.

Following the engagement period, data will be summarised into a report and used to inform the development of a new Engagement Approach. The Engagement Approach will be developed using information from many sources, including from the community during this engagement period, desktop research, internal workshops with Council officers, and a workshop with Councillors. Both the draft Engagement Approach and the engagement summary report will be shared on this page. Check out the timeline for further information on dates.

The data from the community will be used to inform improvements the Council can make to how we engage with Wellingtonians. By understanding what works and doesn't work when it comes to engagement, we want to start creating easier and more effective ways to reach and hear from a broader range of Wellingtonians.
