Ilan Noy: The impacts of extreme weather events caused by climate change

Climate change is already intensifying and/or increasing the frequency of some extreme weather events, in Aotearoa, in the South Pacific, and elsewhere. Extreme Weather Event Attribution, a branch of climate science, quantifies the extent to which global warming has modified the likelihoods and intensities of specific extreme weather events that have already occurred. Recently, researchers have started to combine this information to quantify the economic costs of events caused by climate change. Professor Noy will provide a few examples of such an approach and outline the insights it can generate.
