Are you interested in exploring the shared history of Te Whanganui-a-Tara?

Understanding the history of this whenua helps us deepen our respect and understanding of te taiao.

Once we are more deeply able to understand the history of the land only then can we move forward with resilience and adaptation to help protect it for future generations.

Ngā Tapuwae a-Taraika is a grassroots, rangatahi-led initiative that privileges mātauranga Māori through the voices of rangatahi Māori. By walking in the footsteps of those who came before, these tours offer a powerful, localised narrative, bringing to life the stories, landmarks, and cultural significance of the whenua surrounding Te Whanganui a-Tara.

Our student guides can deliver the experience entirely in te reo Māori or bilingually, seamlessly weaving both languages throughout. Along the way, they share insights, histories, and perspectives that bring the landscape to life in ways you simply wouldn’t experience on your own.

Tour Details:

- Duration: 45–60 minutes (weather permitting),

- There is a rain date scheduled on Monday 4th May at 12.30-13.30, we will let you know 24 hours in advance if the tour needs to be rearranged.

- Ages: 16+

- Capacity: Limited to 30 participants (registration required)

- Preferred language: Please indicate on the MS Form and we will accommodate where possible

- Participants should have a reasonable level of fitness. Some sections are narrow, steep, and uneven. For safety, the tour is not suitable for those with prams or those with mobility limitations.
