About this project
From 1 July 2026, Wellington’s water services will flow from a new regional organisation, Tiaki Wai. Tiaki Wai replaces Wellington Water Limited.
It is co-owned by the five metropolitan councils (Wellington City, Hutt City, Upper Hutt City, Porirua City, and Greater Wellington) and governed together with mana whenua partners Ngāti Toa Rangatira and Taranaki Whānui ki Te Upoko o Te Ika.
About this engagement
From 25 March – 22 April 2026, Tiaki Wai will be asking residents and ratepayers for their feedback on their Water Services Strategy (WSS), which will come into effect from July.
It outlines the main goals and plans for Tiaki Wai, with a focus on repairing aging water infrastructure and addressing the needs of the region.
It will also indicate future costs of water services for Wellingtonians and outline options for financial assistance.
Tiaki Wai also wants your feedback on two additional documents: their Significance and Engagement Policy and their Customer Charter.
The Significance and Engagement Policy will explain how Tiaki Wai decides which issues matter most to local communities and how you’ll be involved in making those decisions. The Customer Charter will outline what you can expect from Tiaki Wai, like clear customer information, reliable service, and easy ways to get help or give feedback.
It is important to note that Tiaki Wai is leading this consultation. For questions or feedback, visit the Tiaki Wai website instead of contacting Wellington City Council.
