About this project

Public feedback on the proposed design for the Mitchell Street Play Area has now closed. Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts and ideas.

The project team is currently reviewing all feedback to help inform the final design. We will aim to share an update on the selected design here once this process is complete in late June/early August. No start date for construction has been confirmed but the project is expected to be completed by June 2027.

In the meantime, please check back on this page or select the “follow” button above to receive updates as they are released.

More information

Mitchell Street play area is a neighbourhood play area that is a handy place for a quick play. Typically, there will be play opportunities for at least one age group (ideally junior children as a minimum). It is designed to service the local neighbourhood within approximately 600-metre walking distance and is likely to be located in neighbourhood parks.

We're renewing these play areas to make them an even better place to play. You can read more about Wellington City Council’s strategic vision and planning for play areas in Wellington in the Play Spaces Policy (2017).
