About this project

The George Denton Park Play Area is due for an upgrade and want your input!

Two design options have been developed, and we’re inviting the community to help shape the final plan. Check out the proposed designs below and let us know which design you prefer and why.

Consultation is open from 19 June to 5pm, Thursday 10 July

You can share your feedback by completing the short survey below or by emailing playground@wcc.govt.nz.

What should we do with the exercise equipment?

As part of the George Denton Park play area renewal, we’re also reviewing the adult exercise equipment on site.

We're keen to hear whether you think the existing exercise equipment still adds value to the community, or if it would be better used elsewhere.

We’re considering two options:

Retain and refurbish the equipment on-site, including adding safety surfacing

Relocate the equipment to another park where it may be better used

If relocation was the preferred option, the equipment would likely be moved to Monorgan Rd playground in Strathmore. This site has been identified as the alternate site as it is a community playground that services a larger population, with more public transport connections and a large school nearby.

A decision to relocate or retain the site as is will be made after considering the feedback by the community. The exercise equipment is not included in either of the design options below as it is a separate part of the play area.

Let us know what you think by answering the extra questions in the survey below.

More information

George Denton Park play area is a neighbourhood play area that is a handy place for a quick play. Typically, there will be play opportunities for at least one age group (ideally junior children as a minimum).  It is designed to service the local neighbourhood within approximately 600-metre walking distance and is likely to be located in neighbourhood parks.

We're renewing these play areas to make them an even better place to play. You can read more about Wellington City Council’s strategic vision and planning for play areas in Wellington in the Play Spaces Policy (2017).
