Houghton Bay Play Area Renewal

Consultation has concluded

The Houghton Bay Play Area is due for an upgrade and we'd like to hear your feedback on the draft designs.

We have two proposals for the exciting Houghton Bay Play Area renewal

Proposed changes for option 1

  • Large new module that includes 2 slides, various panel play items, tunnels, and monkey bars
  • Refurbished Bowl spinner and spica
  • New swings, including 2 belt seats and 2 baby/toddler seats
  • New safety surfacing and asphalt path from the entrance

Proposed changes for option 2

  • New module with lots of climbing opportunities, that runs in a circuit, including 2 slides
  • New flying fox
  • New swings, including 2 belt seats and 2 baby/toddler seats
  • New safety surfacing and asphalt path from the entrance

Please refer to the Houghton Bay Proposal documents for more information, and a visualisation of the options.

We’d love to hear which design you prefer, and any feedback you have on the two the draft designs. Please let us know your thoughts by emailing playgrounds@wcc.govt.nz by 5pm 14 October 2022.

More information

Houghton Bay is a neighbourhood play area that is a handy place for a quick play, with play opportunities for at least one age group. It is designed to service the local neighbourhood within an approximate 600–metre walking distance.

We're renewing these play areas to make them an even better place to play. You can read more about Wellington City Council’s strategic vision and planning for play areas in Wellington in the Play Spaces Policy (2017).
